Girls Select Tryouts
Spring 2021
***Please read all information carefully**
Date, Time & Location:
Goalie Tryouts: Tuesday, November 3rd at HTMS (4:30-5:45)
***Goalies will be notified that evening if they made a team. If they did not make the team, they can tryout for a field position the next day if they indicated that is what they would like to do.
Senior Select Tryouts: Wednesday, November 4th at Noonday Park (5:15-6:45)
Junior Select Tryouts: Wednesday, November 4th at Noonday Park (7:00-8:30)
***Players that indicated they want to be considered for both need to attend both tryout times. There will be a 15 minute break between.
Who: 6th, 7th & 8th graders
Registration: Registration has closed for tryouts
Cost: $475 – if player makes the team, an invitation will be sent to complete registration & payment
Tryouts will be closed to spectators
Information about Select Lacrosse:
Select teams have been created to allow players to compete in a league comprised of similar teams around the Atlanta area. While the commitment to playing Select is great, the benefits are as well. Players practice and train with players similar in abilities and motivation and compete amongst the same. The preparation for competitive summer lax as well as HS lax is excellent as a result of Select participation.
We plan to have 2 competitive Select teams. This will all depend on the number of girls that tryout. 8th graders are eligible for Sr Select only. Sr Select will be comprised of mostly 8th graders. 7th and 6th graders can choose to try out for Jr Select only OR be considered for Jr or Sr. If choosing both, the player must attend both tryout times. Playing time is not guaranteed.
Coaches: Senior Select coach is Sophia Omar. Junior Select coaches are Ali Boisjolie & Sophia Bowers.
A player must live in the Pope High School district in order to try out for this team unless their feeder program does not have a Select team. Please contact me if your daughter is out of district before registering.
Roster for each team will consist of 16-18 field players and 2 goalies.
Practices and conditioning will begin in January and games will be played during the Spring 2021 lacrosse season. Days, times and location are still to be determined.
Attached you will find the skills that evaluators will be looking for during tryouts. A copy of the evaluation skills can also be found here: Player Evaluation Skills. Please have your daughter review these beforehand and be prepared to demonstrate their abilities.
PLEASE NOTE: If your daughter tries out and makes the Select lacrosse team, then the Select lacrosse team (both practices and games) must be her primary spring sport/activity. We understand that there will be some overlap between the end of the winter sports/activities season and the beginning of the spring Select lacrosse season. However, once the winter sports season ends, Select lacrosse practices and games must take priority over other sports and activities. Please ensure that your daughter is able to commit to the Select season.
Refunds: There will be no refunds after uniforms and gear have been ordered unless unfortunately, the season is cut short due to COVID-19. In the event that the season is cut short due to COVID-19, at a minimum, cost of gear ordered will not be refunded and any refund considered will be based on other costs incurred by the program. Refunds to a credit card will be charged a 3% processing fee.
