Rec Divisions

The following Boys and Girls Rec divisions are available both Fall and Spring seasons.

K/1: Kindergarten & Grade 1
U9: Grades 2 & 3
U11: Grades 4 & 5
U13: Grades 6 & 7
U15: Grade 8

The registration system currently registers based on age using Sept 1st as the age cutoff date. For those players whose age and grade do not match due to skipping a grade or being held back, the registration system will require you to register in the division that is age appropriate. Once you’ve completed registration, please email [email protected] prior to the deadline if you would prefer your child be moved to the appropriate division based on the player's grade.

Select Divisions

The following Boys and Girls Select teams are only available during Spring season. Those interested must tryout for a spot on a team. Evaluations are usually held in November/December.

Junior Select:
 6th and 7th grade
Senior Select: 7th and 8th grade

Age Verification

Although Pope Jr Greyhound Lacrosse is a grade level program, our parent organization, US Lacrosse, is not. All of our coaches and players MUST be US Lacrosse members in order for our program (inc coaches and players) to be insured. As a result, we must adhere to policies US Lacrosse has set in place (i.e. organization's player segmentation policy, passed by its Board of Directors in January 2016) and do our due diligence to ensure the link between our program and US Lacrosse is accurate. That includes verifying each player's birth date. The great news is that this is a one time verification for each participant. Once the birth certificate is uploaded into our system, we will verify the age. In doing this, the birth certificate is no longer accessible by us and the birth date becomes read only for the participant. Future registrations for the participant will never need to be age verified again.

Rec Playing Up Policy

The Pope Jr Greyhound Lacrosse (PJGL) program has established that it is in the best interest of the players to play in the appropriate age/grade division as directed by Newtown Recreation. When “playing up”, a player may encounter playing with/or against a player who is much larger, faster, more aggressive and more developmentally mature. This can place the younger player at a disadvantage in achieving their potential and having success on the field, becoming a leader on the team, or enjoying the game. Experiencing success, "playing to their potential" and a player’s enjoyment of the game, are primary goals for PJGL. As a result, PJGL does not allow parents to request their child “play up.”

There may be situations that arise within the PJGL program that will create a need to ask players to “play up.” Once registration ends, a PJGL Commissioner will analyze registration numbers, team makeups, and available coaching staff to determine if additional players are needed from a lower level and will invite players accordingly. If a player is invited to “play up,” it is only good for the current season.
